Android's Dungeon Blogging Productivity Report

For some reason, it's been three years since my last Android's Dungeon Blogging Productivity Report. But I thought I'd fire up the Department of Education's graph generator one last time before Trump shuts it down.

2016 featured a bounce-back to 2012-era levels of blogging. 2014 and 2015 were two of my three lowest years, so I guess it's OK I didn't write reports for those years.

My three most popular labels last year were geocaching (23), soccer (13) and travel (11). (Some posts had multiple labels.) Those seem like topics of interest going forward, although I don't have a lot of travel planned just this instant.

My most popular post of the year was my father's eulogy, with 256 views to date. My least popular post, with 8, marked visiting my 32nd country. Most of my other posts received 15-40 views, which I'll take.

By the way, my most viewed post of all time was a 2011 post about waymarks, which must hit some weird search engine groove I'm not aware of. (The stats only go back so far, however.)

Anyway, if I can reach 50 in 2017, I think I'll be happy, particularly if 15-40 people are willing to read my perspectives on geocaching and Scottish soccer.

Android's Dungeon 2013 Blogging Productivity Report

I'm running out of graph styles to use on these annual reports. (The x-axis is not much to my liking here.)

For the second straight year, the number of blog posts dropped, although I'm still at twice my 2010 low. I labeled every post last year, so I could see where my posting activity came from. The top category was my Bowie Restaurant Project, with 17 posts. "Books" produced 10 posts, and "Hugo" produced 7 (mostly the same as the books posts due to the fact that some posts were multi-labeled.)

Given that I only have 6 restaurants left to review in Bowie, I don't think I'm going to get 17 posts out of that in 2014. More than 6 hopefully, with new restaurants opening, and some summary posts I have planned.

I have moved many of my books posts over to Goodreads, though I can plan to post my more substantive reviews here as well. If I become a Hugo voter this year, I also get the right to vote on the 1939 "retro-Hugos", so I should have a lot more material to cover.

If I'm going to beat (or even reach) 40 posts this year, I will have to rely on some of the recently-neglected categories. I didn't do much travel in 2013 (none without the family), but there's potential there. I have a geocaching post coming up this weekend; maybe I can do more of those. And biking would be a nice thing to blog about.

Android's Dungeon 2012 Blogging Productivity Report

At the beginning of 2011, I lamented the steep decline in my posting output here. Last January, I celebrated a rebound. So how'd I do in 2012? About halfway between the depths of 2010 and the recovery in 2011.

I used labels on every post last year, but the first, which shows me that my Bowie Restaurant Project contributed the majority of posts, with books in second place, and other topics (travel, nostalgia, geocaching, genealogy, etc.) contributing a handful.

In 2013 (I find it hard to believe that's a real year), I guess I'd like to bring the restaurant project to a close, review more books, and start posting more about travel, even if I don't travel very much. With the books, it's hard to have the discipline to write a review while the book is fresh in my mind, and a month or so later, the typical review feels like, "Oh, yeah, that book was pretty good, except for this aspect." On the travel, I've gotten into the habit of posting photos to Facebook. While I like limiting the exposure of some stuff, most of my travel photos have no privacy implications, and the blog allows me to weave a more complicated narrative than Facebook does. So I'd like to post more this year, but I won't be too sad if I end up around 52 again.

Return of the Android's Dungeon

Early last year, I posted a lament that my blog posting levels had been dropping off over the years. I vowed,
I'll try to do better this year, even if it means including goofy, "meta" posts like this one.
Hey, I did better! The rebirth was fueled by my "Bowie Restaurant Project", which contributed 37 posts -- slightly less than half. It amazes me that despite this effort, I didn't reach the levels of 2006-2007. What was I posting about then?

It looks like travel. In 2007, I had posts about trips to the Bahamas, New York, Finland, Estonia, Barcelona, California, Austria, Singapore, Malaysia and Las Vegas. Wow. I used to travel a lot. My reasons for traveling less are documented on another blog, so they won't be showing up too much here. I can, however, make the most of the travel I do have. And review more of the books I read. And finish the Bowie Restaurant Project. And cut myself a break for not keeping up the same posting schedule post-kids that I had pre-kids.

This year I decided to go with a bar graph.
